Sharky Sings Paul is a re-singing and expansion of Paul Simon’s 1986 album Graceland. Sharky Sings Paul operates from the perspective of a fictional character, Sharky, in order to explore the imperfect-ness of personal, cultural, and historical memory. Utilizing repetition in a variety of media including sound, video, and found objects, this body of work dwells in the ambiguity of a combination of storgic relationships. Sharky is every person who has ever desired a Grace-land.

Amelia Colette Jones is originally from North Texas. She moved to St Louis in 2007 and received her Masters in Fine Art from Washington University in 2009. In 2010 she co-founded Sloup, a monthly soup dinner that generates funding for the arts, with Maggie Ginestra, a fellow artist, facilitator, and Sharky. Amelia has shown at Fort Gondo Compound for the Arts and Los Caminos in St Louis.

Front/Space is pleased to present SWEETSTEAKS, an exhibition of thesis work by Kansas City Art Institute senior Madeline Gallucci. SWEETSTEAKS is a culmination of drawings, installation, and assemblage that invokes everyday objects, landscapes, and architecture as symbols for media saturation via Internet. Brilliant textures pair with structural elements to create a robust, unpredictable atmosphere for the viewer to sift through and discover.

This body of work moves to blur the boundary between image and object.Originally interested in collage as a method for disorienting the viewers’ notion of material fact, Gallucci has developed structures that expand and extend her work on paper. Through simple material choices such as pencil, paper, paint, wood and plastic, the pieces become self-referential, demonstrating a delicate balance in the contemplation and organization of material. Regardless of medium, the works are interchangeable components that constantly build Gallucci’s visual vocabulary and narrative.

Madeline Gallucci is originally from Greensboro, North Carolina. Since moving to Kansas City to attend the Art Institute, she has interned for the Charlotte Street Foundation and become an active member of the faux public access television show Whoop Dee Doo. Gallucci has recently exhibited at the Spray Booth Gallery in the XOXO Salon Style Exhibition, the Undergraduate College Student Exhibition at the KC Artist Coalition and the KCAI alumni curated Construction in Structure at the City Arts Project. SWEETSTEAKS is Madeline Gallucci’s first solo exhibition.
